Becoming a Medical Laboratory Technologist
To become a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) an individual is required to complete a MLT program approved by the Canadian Medical Association.
Currently, 3 MLT programs exist: 1) General MLT 2) Diagnostic Cytology, and 3) Clinical Genetics

Clinical Genetics Program:
There are currently no training programs in Nova Scotia, however; there are two training programs available in Canada. For more information contact:
British Columbia Institute of Technology Michener Institute of Applied Health Sciences Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science
Once training is complete, the student medical laboratory technologist is required to write national certification exams administered by the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
Once certified, the student must register with the Nova Scotia College of Medical Laboratory Technologists (NSCMLT) to obtain a license to practice in Nova Scotia. |
