Licensing

To qualify as a medical laboratory technologist in Nova Scotia you must successfully complete a Canadian accredited Medical Laboratory Technology program and successfully challenge the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) national exam. For those educated internationally, you must successfully complete a prior learning assessment by CSMLS and successfully challenge the CSMLS national exam.For further information see below.

Please note that a practising license does not just refer to MLTs on the bench, but also to MLTs that is using their MLT knowledge that may directly or indirectly affect patient outcome. 

To apply for a NSCMLT membership, please choose the appropriate application.

Initial Registration Application

First time applicants (recent MLT graduates or to-be graduates please see the MLT Grad page for additional required documents list)

Renewal Application

For those previously licensed by the NSCMLT and wishing to renew their license refer to license renewal

Reinstatement Application

For those previously licensed by the NSCMLT and wishing to reinstate after their license has lapsed

Return to Practice

If you are planning to return to the work force after an absence of more than 5 years, refer to the current NSCMLT Return to Practice Policy.
