Students
Students currently enrolled in a recognized training program may apply for membership in the NSCMLT. Complete the Student Application and submit to the registrar of the NSCMLT.
Students who have not written final exams, but have tentative positions as medical laboratory technologists, may apply for licensure. For details on licensure, see Licensing Requirements for New Graduates.
Upon confirmation of certification, CSMLS also issues the individual a form for Active membership. It is the individual's responsibility to fill this out and return to CSMLS so the Active membership will be issued by either May 1st, 2007 or September 10th, 2007.
PLI coverage associated
with CSMLS student membership is only in force during the student's clinical
placement, therefore the new graduate is required to obtain CSMLS Active
membership with PLI within the time frame stated by the NSCMLT. The Temporary
status can then be changed to Practising. (last edited April 19th, 2007)
Once a student writes the CSMLS examination(s) they are no longer considered a student and therefore do not possess PLI until Active membership is obtained.
