Step 11 : What other jobs can I do if I am not registered as an MLT with NSCMLT?
Sometimes internationally education medical laboratory technologists decide to make other career choices instead of becoming a licensed MLT in Nova Scotia.
MLTs have transferable skills that can be used in a variety of jobs that don't require a license. Check with the human resources department at various employers to find out if you qualify for a position. Also check out the CSMSL alternate careers at altcareers.csmls.org
These are some examples:
- Medical Laboratory Assistant/Technician: works in hospitals, laboratories, specimen collection sites and private laboratories.
- Veterinary Laboratory Technologist/Technician
- Research Laboratory Technologist/Technician
- Industrial Laboratory Technologist/Technician: performs quality control testing on products.
