Step 3: Self Assessment: Am I Eligible to be a Licensed Medical Laboratory Technologist in Nova Scotia?
Before you apply to the NSCMLT, you need to determine if your education and experience matches the requirements to be a licensed medical laboratory technologist in Nova Scotia. As part of your registration you must write the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Sciences National Certification Examinations. There are two ways you can be eligible to write the exam:
1. You are a graduate of a Canadian Medical Association (CMA) accredited MLT educational program. You must complete all diploma requirements before the exam.
2. You have equivalent status through the CSMLS' prior learning assessment. Please click here to review the CSMLS self-assessment guide to find out about your eligibility.
Self Assessment Readiness Tools (SART Tools) - NSCMLT recommends that you check out the Self-Assessment Readiness Tools (SART© ). These tools are designed to help internationally-educated health professionals understand the requirements for Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) in Canada. The tools describe knowledge, skills and abilities that are expected of Canadian MLTs and provide information to support migration to Canada for those interested in the medical laboratory science field.
